Fotopro X- Go Mini 2 Review: The Perfect Compact Carbon Tripod for Macro Photography

Fotopro X Mini Go 2

I ended up winning this tripod in a valentines day giveaway by Fotopro this passed February.  They just asked what were people going to do for valentines day and I just replied that I was going to spend valentines day “forever alone” with my cats and i won LOL.  Ive never won anything for being single so that was kind of nice.  I already own a mini tripod but not a carbon one.  This one is lighter and can lift some pretty impressive weight.  Fotopro says that it can easily lift a 70-200mm lens with no problems.  Im not sure about that as i dont own a lens that heavy yet but I do own a canon 1DX.  I mounted that on there and it keeps it balanced with no issues.

Technical Specifications:

  • Minimum Height: 165 mm
  • Max Height: 451 mm

  • Construction: Carbon Fiber

Build Quality:

  •  This is a mini carbon fiber tripod.  The legs do come off but you just have to tighten them up once you have arrived to the level you want the tripod to be at.  It is a solid tripod.

Price for the Money:

  • I won this thing on an instagram competition.  If you go online as at the time of this post it goes for $89.

User Experience:

  • Using the Fotopro X Mini Go 2 for macro photography with my Sony A7 II and vintage Kaleinar 5N 100mm F2.8 was a smooth experience. The compact carbon fiber build made it easy to carry, while still offering the stability needed for precise shots. The twist-lock leg mechanism allowed for quick adjustments, and the removable center column was perfect for getting low-angle shots, which are crucial for macro photography. The rubber feet kept the tripod stable on uneven ground, preventing any unwanted shifts during my shoot. Despite its small size, it easily supported my camera setup, giving me confidence in its performance. Overall, the Fotopro X Mini Go 2 provided the perfect balance of portability and stability, making it a fantastic choice for macro shooters on the go.  I see people using this tripod for their headshot videos (desk), cooking  video recordings, macro shooters.  And it clearly takes a set up of up to 17 lbs pounds per Fotopro.  I pushed it with a Canon 1DX (3 lbs) and a prime vintage lens and no issues even when turned sideways.

  • The Fotopro X Mini Go 2 tripod offers excellent versatility when it comes to angles, thanks to its adjustable ball head. The ball head allows for 360-degree rotation, which is perfect for panoramic shots or getting the exact framing you need without needing to move the tripod.
