The Tokina AT-X 100mm AF Macro lens is one of the best reviewed lenses I have checked out reviews before buying. It got great reviews about 9 years ago so I always wondered how the lens performs today. I was able to borrow an adapter for it from FotodioX Pro. You can currently get this lens for about $80 on ebay. Is it a good deal? should you still get it today? Sony A has many lenses you can check out, weather if you are looking for a prime lens, a zoom lens or a macro lens like this one you can now get them at a cheaper price because of Sony E’s new catalog and releases of lenses. You will need an adapter for those lenses. Does this adapter do the job for today’s Sony E shooters?
Lens Adapter Technical Specifications:

- High-tolerance precision craftsmanship; infinity focus or beyond guaranteed
- All-metal design; hardened anodized aluminum construction
- Premium grade Fotodiox adapter

Build Quality:
- The adapter is made of a metal design with hardened anodized aluminum construction. It feels good in the hand and it is light enough to not feel its presence when shooting your lens.
Price for the Money:
- I paid $80 for this lens. This is the market rate for this lens at this condition at the time of publishing this blog post. I needed an adapter for it and got to shoot this AF-NEX adapter. No image distortion, no shake. It does the job. It currently goes for $18.96 on FotodioX Pro’s website. Get it with my code: LensHooche10 for 10% off here.
User Experience:
- This lens is from the 90’s. I know i am not going to get a top of the line macro lens, specially if you compare it to any of the newer tech that is out there. That is fine by me. It still did the job and i really did like what i got both for botanical and shooting imperial beach and its squirrels. The lens adapter did its job, i felt no shake, i didnt notice it was there and saw no image distortion in any of my images. It is light enough that you dont even notice its weight as well.

The Lens Hooche Verdict
I like this lens adapter. It also shoots Minolta lenses. I do have a ton of those so will be shooting some of those lenses and will update this post at a later date. But what i got for my Tokina 100 macro AF, it did the job and it did it well all for under $18. You cant beat that in my opinion. The Sony A catalog has some good lenses you can check out and you will need an adapter for Sony E. This adapter should be on the top of your list for shooting Sony A lenses.
