The FotodioX Pro DLX Stretch FD-E Lens adapter allows you to shoot your Canon FD and FL lenses and gives you the opportunity to also zoom in closer with a helicoil knob if you need to get closer to your subject. I have already reviewed FotodioX Pro FD adapter but wanted to really be able to test out the Macro capabilities of a Canon FD 50mm Macro lens. I own a Canon FD 50mm 3.5 SSC Macro lens I wanted to test with this lens adapter with to see if this adapter would let me shoot closer to the subject with no image blur. To get the best out of this lens you need a canon extension tube but I dont have one so i figured this was the perfect opportunity to see what I can get out of this old lens. For this test run I used my Sony A7CII along with the Canon FD 50mm SSC Macro, Canon FL 28mm 3.5 and DLX Stretch. What will we get? lets find out.

Build Quality:
- This lens adapter is made of metal with chrome plated brass mounts. It is solid and feels good in the hand. No shake when you use it and I experienced no image distortion in any of the shots i took.
Price You Pay:
- This adapter goes for $109.95 as of the time of writing this post. Along with the adapter you get 3 drop in magnetic filters (ND-4,ND-8,ND-16) that are used for light control and a case to store them. I get a 10% off code for reviewing Fotodiox products and i have a link below for you if you plan on getting it.
User Experience:
- When I took this adapter out of its box I thought it was going to be a bit heavy to shoot but its not. The magnetic drop in filters offer (I assume) different light control but honestly I could not tell the difference. The game changer when using this adapter versus just an FD adapter is that it allows you to get closer to your subject by moving the helicoil knob closer to your subject. That is a cool feature if you need to get a closer shot. I think this adapter is for the person who doesn’t own an FD/FL adapter yet and who wants that extra close up to the subject. At $109 i know it may be out of range for some people but from my experience I would get it for that extra close up and for its built quality. This thing is very well made. If you run an “FD Macro Lens” search on Ebay you will find pages of lenses you can use with this adapter so if Macro shooting is your thing, i would definitely get it. There are tons of FL lenses too so you are getting an adapter that can shoot both types of lenses. I have shot some that cant lock in FL for some reason but this one had no issues. Keep in mind your lens doesn’t have to be a macro lens to shoot this adapter as long as they are FD/FL lenses you can use those too.

The Lens Hooche Verdict
This adapter is for Macro shooters. Should you spend the $100+ on this adapter when you can get a regular FD/FL adapter at a lower price? If you absolutely need to get closer to your subject I think you should definitely consider it. The 3 magnetic drop in filters are a plus in my opinion as it can keep your sensor safe but I was not able to tell a difference from shooting the adapter with the different filters versus without in terms of difference of lighting (if there is supposed to be any difference for the kind of shot you can get, I was not able to tell if there was one). The built quality on this adapter is fantastic and this should be on any Macro shooter’s list, particularly if you want to get the best out of the Canon FD 50mm SSC Macro lens or any of your canon FL/FD favorites.
