1. Choose the Right Model
Model Variations: The 44-2 is praised for its iconic swirly bokeh and manual aperture control, while the 44M-4 offers a more modern build with automatic aperture functionality. In this series you cant go wrong with the 44m – 7 as it was the last in this series made and it is very sharp.
Aperture and Coatings: Consider the aperture size (e.g., f/2) for low-light performance and coatings for better contrast and reduced flare.
2. Watch for Authenticity
Identifying Genuine Lenses: checking for authentic serial numbers and avoiding lenses with mismatched parts or suspiciously low prices. Sellers with high ratings and detailed product descriptions are often more reliable.
Sample Images: Try to request sample images taken with the lens to verify its optical quality.
3. Consider Condition and Accessories
Lens Condition: Top tips include inspecting for smooth focus rings, clean glass (free of fungus or scratches), and sturdy build quality.
Adapters: investing in high-quality adapters, like those from FotodioX Pro, to ensure compatibility with modern cameras like Sony Alpha A7CII.
4. Consider buying from outside sellers (if rating on Ebay is excellent)
- Should you buy from a country like Kazakstan? Why not? The seller i bought from had an excellent rating on Ebay. It took the lens a couple of weeks to get to my residence but I saved about $100 (worth the wait to save some money).
